DIY Dog Treat Ingredients
Here at Bayside Pet Resort, we love to see pets happy and healthy. A great add-on that we offer for your pet’s stay is gourmet treats. Treats are one of the many great ways to reward your pet–and can also aid with anxiety as a coping mechanism in their new space. We are happy to prepare and serve fresh gourmet treats in your pets’ suite once they are settled in.
One of our greatest assets is our General Manager Julie, who is known around Sarasota for her crafty pup-sicle recipes. She has a long history in the Pet Care Industry and inspires us daily to create new pup-sicle recipes. Although we know dogs love chomping on our fresh gourmet treats, we think they would love them just as much when served by Mom or Dad! Here are some great ingredients you can combine, freeze, and serve to your special furry friends.
Yogurt is a great base to mix with many of the upcoming ingredients. Not only is it a good source of protein and calcium, but it’s a great probiotic. We recommend using plain greek style yogurt– or kefir (fermented milk) a healthy favorite!
Bananas are great for your dog because they have a high fiber content. This means they can help your dog move food through their digestive track and resolve issues like; constipation, diarrhea, or blockages. They’re also a good boost of Vitamin C!
Most of us know this one. Peanut Butter provides nutrients, fiber, protein, and healthy fats. Fun fact: it includes folic acid and magnesium that help your dog metabolize B complex vitamins.
Carrots are low-calorie but high in fiber and beta-carotene (which produces Vitamin A). If they’re served in the whole bits, this crunchy treat can help improve dental hygiene!
Honey is the source of antioxidants such as; Vitamins A, C, and E. It will also help reduce inflammation. We recommend using locally sourced raw honey to boost their immune system.
Blueberries are an amazing superfood that is rich in antioxidants preventing cell damage, this goes for humans too! They’re also packed with fiber and phytochemicals, a chemical produced by plants that help them resist fungi, bacteria, and infections.
Chicken broth is full of amino acids (glycine and collagen) which can promote good hydration, joint health, along with good liver and kidney function. We recommend using a no sodium bone broth for maximum health benefits.
Pumpkins are a tasty way to soothe and regulate your pet’s digestive system. Whether it’s diarrhea or constipation pumpkin puree is a great topper or treat ingredient to get them back on track. It’s also a good way to get Vitamin E, potassium, and beta carotene.
These low-calorie sweets are also full of antioxidants, high in fiber, and Vitamin C. Did you know you and your pup can enjoy these treats along with the benefits of teeth whitening? Now that’s a treat!
Apples are another sweet source of Vitamin A and C, potassium, as well as antioxidants! Don’t peel them–the skin is where your pet can find the most fiber. We recommend this treatment to help your dog maintain a healthy weight and assist with digestive functions. Throw some chunks in a pup-sicle or blend them up for your pet!
We hope these ingredients are the beginning of a beautiful creation in your kitchen. We always encourage pet owners to get creative with their homemade treats but make sure the ingredients you choose are pet friendly. Bayside Pet Resort always offers delicious Gourmet Treats as an alternative to Mom & Dad’s special creations while they’re away. Call us to add a gourmet treat to your pets’ next visit!
